🏠Who Mobile Phlebotomy Serves

Can mobile phlebotomy be used for children?

Yes. Mobile phlebotomy is suitable for pediatric patients, and in many cases it is preferable to a clinic visit.

Benefits for children:

  • Familiar home environment reduces fear and anxiety
  • No waiting room exposure to other sick patients
  • Parents can be fully present and hands-on during the draw
  • Scheduling around school and activity schedules
  • Pediatric-specific considerations:

  • Phlebotomists who work with children should have pediatric phlebotomy experience
  • Smaller veins require smaller butterfly needles (23–25 gauge)
  • Capillary (finger stick) collection may be appropriate for very young children or small blood volume requirements
  • Numbing cream (EMLA) should be applied before the appointment if the child is anxious — discuss with your pediatrician
  • Distraction techniques (tablet, toy, TV) work very well for toddlers and school-age children
  • When requesting a pediatric draw:

Ask the mobile phlebotomist about their experience with children and their comfort with pediatric vein access. Not all phlebotomists specialize in pediatrics — it is worth confirming before booking.
