What equipment is used in mobile blood draws?

Phlebotomists bring vacutainer systems, butterflies and straight needles, all tube types (SST, EDTA, citrate, etc.), tourniquets, gloves, specimen bags, and biohazard disposal.

Full equipment list:

  • Vacutainer needle holders and multi-sample needles (18–23G)
  • Butterfly (winged infusion) needles for small or difficult veins
  • All standard tube types: SST (gold), EDTA (lavender), sodium citrate (blue), lithium heparin (green), PST
  • Tourniquets, alcohol wipes, gauze, adhesive bandages
  • Biohazard bags and sharps containers
  • Specimen labels, lab requisitions
  • Insulated transport bags for temperature-sensitive specimens
  • Providers who offer centrifugation also carry portable centrifuges.
