🩸What Is Mobile Phlebotomy

What if I faint during a blood draw?

Certified phlebotomists are trained to handle vasovagal responses. Inform your provider beforehand if you have a history of fainting so they can take precautions.

Prevention measures your phlebotomist may use:

  • Having you lie down rather than sit during the draw
  • Applied tension technique (tensing leg and abdominal muscles)
  • Cold compress or cold water to drink
  • Slow, calm communication throughout the procedure
  • If you feel lightheaded during the draw, tell your phlebotomist immediately. They will stop, have you lie flat, and monitor you until you recover. Draws are never rushed.
