🔬Lab & Specimen Handling

Can blood cultures be drawn?

Yes. Providers with clinical experience can draw blood cultures using sterile technique and appropriate anaerobic/aerobic bottles.

Blood culture collection requires strict sterile technique — the venipuncture site is prepped with chlorhexidine or iodine and allowed to fully dry before the draw. Aerobic and anaerobic culture bottles are each inoculated with the appropriate blood volume. This is a specialized skill — confirm provider experience with blood culture collection before booking.
