🔬Lab & Specimen Handling

What if shipping is delayed?

Shipping delays can compromise time-sensitive specimens. Providers are trained to choose appropriate shipping methods to minimize risk.

To mitigate shipping delay risk:

  • Providers ship via FedEx Priority Overnight for time-sensitive specimens
  • Temperature is maintained with cold packs or dry ice rated for the expected transit duration
  • Providers check FedEx weather and service alerts before shipping
  • For extremely time-sensitive specimens, same-day local courier may be the better option
  • If a specimen is delayed and rendered unusable, a redraw may be needed. Contact both the provider and the lab if you suspect a shipping delay has compromised your specimen.
