🔬Lab & Specimen Handling

Can mobile phlebotomy handle chain of custody?

Yes. Providers experienced in forensic or legal specimen collection follow strict chain of custody protocols including witnessed collection and tamper-evident packaging.

Chain-of-custody (COC) collection requires:

  • Patient identity verification with photo ID
  • Witnessed specimen collection (observed urine or blood)
  • Tamper-evident seal applied in front of the donor
  • COC form completed with collector and donor signatures
  • Specimen sealed in a tamper-evident bag
  • Unbroken chain documented from collection to lab receipt
  • Only providers trained in COC collection should be used for forensic, legal, or DOT-regulated testing.
